No editing skills needed: auto-edit video with Claude Code + free tools (prompt included)
This video is its own proof — Claude Code edited it. I used to pay for CapCut at $20 a month, mostly just to add subtitles. Then I stopped editing by hand altogether and handed the job to Claude Code. This walks through the whole pipeline from zero, and the tools doing the actual cutting are completely free.
What the video covers
- The pipeline, end to end — how footage goes in and a finished cut comes out, and where Claude Code sits in the middle of it.
- The free stack — Whisper for speech-to-text, ffmpeg for the cutting, HyperFrame for motion graphics. All free and open source.
- Installing Claude Code — the setup step, walked through.
- The one-time setup prompt — a copy-paste prompt / md document you hand to Claude Code once, and the pipeline is configured.
- A practical tip for long files — plus the collaboration mindset that makes working with AI on long footage actually work.
- A live edit — the real thing, start to finish, not a sped-up montage.
- What’s inside the md document — a walkthrough of the config itself.
About the word “free”
Worth being precise: Whisper, ffmpeg, and HyperFrame are free and open source. Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan. So if you already subscribe to Claude, this editing pipeline costs you nothing extra — that’s the honest framing.
If you’re building other things on top of Claude Code, the desktop Hermes Agent setup is a good companion. And if you make short-form video, the AI storyboard workflow covers the generation side of the same craft.
